Melissa Shelby Photography is a new venture started in 2005. My interest in photography began in college where I worked as a contract photogapher for races, graduations, and college events. After extensive travel, my focus shifted toward landscapes. With the addition of baby boy in 2004, my attention again turned toward portraiture. I now had the urgent need to stick people in the middle of all those landscapes. Alaska, of all places, is an ideal location to do just that!

I have studied photography from the compositional to the technical through individual coursework in Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Tennessee, and Alaska. I continue to learn on a daily basis and hope those gains will be reflected in my portfolios.

Most of all, I love what I do. I love the process and the excitement and I especially love it when my friends and clients like their photographs.
