What is copyright?

Copyright of all photos remain with me, the photographer. On an individual basis limited rights to print or submit images to newspapers for engagement notices, etc., are provided. If your package includes digital images, you will also need a copy of these limited rights to print in order to provide to the lab of your choice.

Do you shoot in Black & White?

I shoot all photographs digitally. For a wedding, I typically convert up to 10% of the photographs to Black and White. For specific prints a variety of color or black & white treaments are available.

Do you shoot digital or film?

I currently shoot everything digitally. I use Canon cameras and professional lenses to capture events in a wide range of light and settings. Digital photography allows me the opportunity to ensure the best capture in a rapidly changing environment. It also allows for digital proofing and digital post processing techniques to match your individual style.

Portraits

What should I wear?

Solids are always the best choice. Long sleeves are a great option as well. Short sleeved and sleeveless shirts tend to chop the arms up in negative ways that don't allow for great representation. Loud or busy patterns can create an undesired effect called a Moire and in general tend to distract from the most appealling part of the photograph- YOU! Make sure that whatever outfit you choose, you feel comfortable with yourself! If couples or families are involved, try to coordinate the colors or patterns - jeans with jeans or khaki's with khaki's.

With small children, less is frequently more. Props and hats, jackets, etc can be a nice effect but will tend to distract from an already cute subject! My favorite babies are naked babies! And yes, they do occasionaly pee on the floor, but no worries-- we have plenty of cleaning supplies to mop everything up!

What should I bring?

A change of clothes, or two, or three! A bottle or snacks for small children. A favorite stuffed animal or blanket to include in the photos.

Do you print my photographs or may I print them myself?

I love to print your photographs! In addition to the basic color, tonal and contrast adjustments that are made to all your proofs, prints are edited to best represent the photograph on paper. This includes removal of minor blemishes and intricate adjustments all used to enhance the print. May you print them yourselves? Yes, if the digital negatives are included as part of your package. If so, you will be given instructions on how to submit them to the lab of your choice. (all photography labs are not created equally!). These digital negatives will have only the basic color and density adjustments. If you are looking for an heirloom quality canvas, desk or wall portrait, I strongly suggest you allow the photographer to have your photograph printed to its highest quality.

What about Formals?

Yes, I include a limited number of formals with my packages. Formals can be a great addition prior to the ceremony allowing the bride and groom a quite moment of that "first sight" on the wedding day. After the ceremony formals work as well but tend to be a bit more chaotic with some family members tending to be missing. I have a basic number of standard groupings that I aim for. These can easily be augmented with your requests. Allow for approximately 30 minutes to do the basics and additional time for each added grouping.

Don't like formals? No problem. Just allow me some time to sneak away with the two of you after the ceremony to get some of those special shots worth framing. We can then track down important family and friends at the reception for very informal "grip and grins".
